Who Needs a U.S. Registered Agent?
The new FAA requirement applies to anyone with a foreign address who holds an FAA certificate or needs to comply with FAA-related matters. This includes:
- FAA-certified pilots with a foreign/permanent overseas address.
- Aircraft owners and operators based outside of the United States.
- Aviation businesses (e.g., charter companies, maintenance providers) that operate internationally.
- Flight schools and other training organizations holding FAA certifications.
- Any individual or entity applying for FAA documentation such as airworthiness certifications, pilot licenses, or other relevant FAA-endorsed licenses and certificates.
Latest FAA Updates regarding new U.S. Agent for Service rule
Under a new FAA rule, individuals with no U.S. physical address must designate a U.S. agent for service when applying for or holding a certificate, rating, or authorization. The USAS website for U.S. Agent registration will be available starting April 2, 2025.
